Raphael’s monument

The monument dedicated to Urbino’s most illustrious son is located at the top of via Raffaello in Piazza Roma.
Completed in 1897 by the sculptor Luigi Belli, it was originally placed in Piazza Duca Federico in front of the entrance to the Ducal Palace then later moved to its current site in 1947. Today, amid the gardens of Piano del Monte, at the summit of the street dedicated to the “Divine” artist, the surrounding trees, shrubs and open sky are fitting ornaments to the marble and bronze monument as well as to the busts of famous individuals who have honored the city of Urbino and here placed around the monument, create a local civic Pantheon.
